Media has gained significance,
especially in the "Knowledge based
World of Information Technology and
Satellite Communication". Today,
exchange of information happens in
the flick of a second. Communicating
information on important Government
decisions, news and developmental
activities with relevant photographs
through e-mail to the print media
and cassettes to the audio-visual
media, has become an important day
to day activity of the Information
and Public Relations department.
The State Public Relations
department with a prized treasure of
information has established its
credibility amongst the media, as
far as providing information based
on actual facts is concerned. The
department of I&PR, supplements to
the efforts of the media to a great
extent, providing all types of
information related to the State
Government policies and programmes,
concerning development and welfare
of the state. In this venture the
latest information technology has
been instrumental in making the
department of I&PR emerge successful
in its efforts
The department has made a big stride
in the field of Information
Technology. Almost each activity of
the department has been
computerized. Delivery of services
to the stake holders from one source
in minimum possible time is the
motto of the department, and to
accomplish this, department has
created its own web portal http://www.himachalpr.gov.in/,
which is a comprehensive one, and is
being updated regularly to cope with
the changing scenario.
The press releases, news
photographs, developmental features,
cabinet decisions, press releases
from the districts are placed
immediately on the website and
separate hyperlinks have been
created for these in it.
The tour programmes of Hon'ble Chief
Minister are made available on the
website, which has facilitated the
people whosoever wishes to meet him
for the redressal of their problems.
The most useful feature of the
website is the news clippings from
the district specific pullouts.
These clippings are placed on the
website by 10:30 AM, daily. This
feature has helped especially those
people of State who are far away
from their homes, as this provides
proximity to them after reading the
news of their district. At the same
time it has helped the higher
administration in keeping the track
of field agencies.
The other important feature is news
for the attention of the
departments, which tells where the
administration is required to
respond immediately. The weekly news
paper of the department, "Giriraj"
and other developmental publications
are available in the website and has
increased their readership.

curricular-vitae with photographs of
Her Excellency, The Governor of
Himachal Pradesh, Hon'ble Chief
Minister, Members of Council of
Ministers, photographs of all MLAs
and contact numbers of Chief
Secretary, Additional Chief
Secretaries, Principal Secretaries
and Secretaries.
Information and Public Relation
department is a nodal agency for
releasing classified and display
advertisements of all the
departments. To ensure promptness
and transparency, the tenders by the
department are issued online and
information regarding Release Orders
viz. name of newspapers and date of
publishing, are displayed on the
website.
Through the hyperlink, Useful Links,
the users can access websites of all
the departments of the State
Government, which spells the utility
of the website http://www.himachalpr.gov.in/
.
The hyperlink, on line Newspapers,
facilitates to log in the internet
editions of Newspapers, Doordarshan,
All India Radio and the news
agencies such as PTI and UNI etc.
The information to the website are
uploaded by the directorate and the
DPRO offices, regularly. The Zonal
Offices, Press Liaison offices and
district offices of the department
have been provided with the
necessary infrastructures for this
purpose. These offices have been
connected with the directorate by
Intranet.
Hyperlink, Himachal at a Glance, in
addition to the State profile and
geneses of Himachal Pradesh,
comprises information data centre of
each district. The data folder of
each district contains three files
viz., District profile, Cultural and
tourism heritage of district and
developmental data of district.
The hyperlink, Press Related
Information, comprises names and
contact numbers of all accreditated
State level, District level and
Sub-Division level correspondents.
It is the endeavor of
department to provide the correct
information well in time to all the
stake holders and it is a process in
continuation.
The Technical Wing
of the department works intensely in
carrying out these important tasks.
The credit goes to the State
government as well as to IT
department for equipping the
department with necessary
infrastructure.
