Raman Kumar has all the
reasons to smile today, inspite of his
physical hurdles. He is one of the
progressive farmer of the Una District
today. Thanks to the the ambitious Pt.
Deen Dayal Kisan Bagwan Smridhi Yojna'
launched by the State Government last
year which has brought sea change in
his life.
Being physical disable,
for Raman, sky was the limit and his
dedication and willpower helped him to
realize his dreams. He had lost his
one leg in an accident when he was
fourteen years old. The only son in
the family with three younger sisters,
Raman didn’t let the disability ride
over him and along-with the passage of
time his determination to do something
paved the way for his success.
In December 2009, he got the
poly-house set up in a small patch of
500 sq mt with a grant of Rs 3, 46,480
from the agriculture department.
Thereafter, he got the sprinkler
installed in 20 kanal area with grant
of Rs 17,000 from the Department and
since then was no looking back for
him. He is an inspiration for the
unemployed youth who want to achieve
their dreams.
With the assistance
from the agriculture department, he
planted a nursery of high yielding
varieties of plants in the poly house.
Wherein earlier, traditional
cultivation consumed a greater share
of his time with extra efforts, he got
himself engaged in rearing milch
cattle which fetched him around Rs
8,000 to 10,000 every month. Raman
also hopes to earn around 10-15
thousand from the crops he has planted
including the off-season vegetables.
He has also now set up
the nursery in the vacant area he has
left with and is earning around 10 to
12 thousand by selling the saplings
and seeds to the nearby farmers.
Raman Kumar is not only
the one who is being benefitted by
this ambitious scheme, but other
farmers in different parts of the
state are also harping the benefits of
the poly house cultivation.
He has set an example
for others, and proudly says that “it
is farsightedness of the Government
that every body can now think of
better living with improved quality
life.
