Government will notify more Model Schools: Virbhadra Singh

While presiding over the annual prize distribution function of Government Senior Secondary School Shogi near Shimla today, Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said that education was a key to success and development adding that it was more important to bring  quality in education rather than being considered oneself as educated  by uttering few words in English. It was important to be knowledgeable rather than having little knowledge, he said. He said that just to pass examinations was not enough, a child should come in merit by scoring at least 95 percent marks. 

We need to have more Model Schools with all basic amenities and strengthened infrastructure to achieve the motive, he said. He said that time has come to consolidate the existing educational institutions rather than opening more, barring in few areas with tough terrain. Now, the need was to fill all vacancies of teachers in every school with a motive to provide quality education.

“We are not like the opposition, who de-notified many schools during their regime, instead the Congress party believes in spreading light of education to every corner of the state so that every child is benefited” he said. 

Shri Virbhadra Sigh said that the teachers should devote themselves completely for their students by providing them best of education and help the students in their personality development. 

Besides, GSSS, Shogi declared as Model School, other senior secondary schools at Ghannahatti, Sunni and Halog Dhami would soon be notified as Model Schools, on analogy of Port-more School, Shimla he said.

He said that numerous vacancies in around 15500 schools of the state were filled during the present tenure of the government and the process of filling the vacant seats was still on. Apart from this, 116 degree colleges were functioning in the State and maximum of them in far flung and rural areas, benefiting the girl child the most. 

 The Chief Minister said as many as 37 schools were either upgraded or opened in Shimla rural assembly segment during the present government's regime which included eight primary schools, 11 Government Middle schools, eight High schools and nine GSSS.  

Listing educational institutions in Shimla rural, the Chief Minister said that besides Fine Arts College, a government degree college had been opened at 16 miles. Apart from this, budgetary provision had been made for re-construction of Primary School, Banuti. 

“I want that every school must have a play ground to nurture the physical abilities of the children and in this direction concerted efforts are being made to construct play grounds in every government school in the Shimla rural constituency”, he said. 

To provide vocational education to children, a Vocational Training Institute for women had been started at Shamlaghat. Apart from this Polytechnic College to be opened at Basantpur in tehsil Sunni has been notified, he added. 

He said that three Industrial Training Institutes were announced to be opened at Sunni, Dargi and Jalog and the construction work was in progress.  

A major water supply scheme Gharog-Ghandal  scheme of ? 105 crore was on verge of completion which would benefit 41 panchayats of the Shimla rural. 

As far as health facilities were concerned, Civil Hospital, Sunni has been upgraded to 50 bed hospital, the Primary Health Centres at Dhami, Shoghi and Jalog were upgraded to Community Health Centres and as many as eight Primary Health Centres were either upgraded or opened. 

The Chief Minister also distributed prizes to the children who excelled themselves in academics and other curricular activities and announced a sum of fifteen thousand for promoting cultural activities. 

Earlier, he also laid foundation stone of additional accommodation of PWD Rest House at Taradevi near ITBP Headquarters to cost ? 2.76 crore. It will have 12 rooms, besides the 10 already in use and dormitory with 14 beds. 

Headmaster, GSSS Shogi, Smt. Anita Sharma, welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion. She also read the annual report of the school. 

Chairman, State Co-operative Bank, Shri Harsh Mahajan, Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Ms. Dharmila Harnot, BCC President, Shimla Rural Shri Chander Shekhar, DC, Shri Rohan Thakur were also present on the occasion amongst others.
