Personal profile of Chief Secretary Shri B.K. Agarwal, IAS
Shri Brij Kumar Agarwal was born on 15 June, 1961 at Fatehgarh (Uttar Pradesh). He did Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee, M.Tech in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering from IIT Delhi. He did advance Diploma in Management from Indira Gandhi National Open University and M. Phil in Public Administration from Punjab University.
He did advance Course on World Trade Organization and Related Matters from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) (1) and Project Appraisal and Management from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) (2).
Shri B.K. Agarwal also remained Founder Chairman of Kangra Arts Promotion Society from April 2007 to March 2012.
He participated in Advance Professional Programme in Public Administration of Indian Institute of Public Administration New Delhi. He also remained Scholar in Residence from Indian Institute of Management, Lacknow (UP).
He joined Indian Administrative Services in 1985. Shri Agarwal took over the charge of Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh on 30th September, 2018. Earlier, he held the post of Additional Chief Secretary (Home & Vigilance) and was also holding additional charges of the posts of Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Financial Commissioner (Appeals) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh and Resident Commissioner, Government of Himachal Pradesh, Himachal Bhawan, New Delhi.
Shri B.K. Agarwal held various positions in the Government of India and Himachal Pradesh government. He served as Commissioner of Tourism, Deputy Commissioner of Una and Kangra, Divisional Commissioner of Kangra, Secretary Information Technology, Principal Secretary Food and Civil Supplies to the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
He also served as General Manager of Food Corporation of India in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and Joint Secretary in Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
Shri B.K.Agarwal was honoured with National Award for E-Governance by the Government of India during the year 2008-09. He was also awarded for the outstanding performance in citizen centric service delivery.
